PIPC(Psychiatry In Primary Care)はバージニア州立医科大学 精神科・内科・家庭医科准教授 Robert. K. Schneider先生が考案された、内科医が自分なりにかつ妥当に精神科的対応ができるようになるための教育訓練システムです。2002年より米国内科学会年次総会において、Herbert Waxman Learning Center(現在はHerbert S.Waxman Clinical Skills Center)という教育セッションコーナーの1セクションとして展開されました。

2005年より、井出広幸先生がセッションに参加し、Schneider先生より、日本でのPIPC全面展開を承認されました。
2008年4月に米国内科学会の正式セミナーとして承認されました。

現在日本において、
1)ベーシック・コース、アドバンスト・コース、ファンダメンタル・コースなど、各種セミナーの開催
2)メーリングリスト等による情報交換
を中心に活動しています。

Dr. Schneider is currently an Associate Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, Internal Medicine and Family Medicine and Chair of the Division of Ambulatory Psychiatry at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia CommonDr. Schneider is currently an Associate Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, Internal Medicine and Family Medicine and Chair of the Division of Ambulatory Psychiatry at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia. His major efforts are devoted to the practice and education of psychiatry in the primary care setting. Dr. Schneider’s background is founded in his early career experience of private practice in primary care internal medicine in Atlanta Georgia. Following this experience he continued his training in psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center and joined the faculty at MCV/VCU in 1997. Dr. Schneider is double boarded in psychiatry and internal medicine with added qualifications in geriatric medicine. His current responsibilities include director of mental health education for women’s health and primary care residents at MCV/VCU. He is a frequent lecturer locally and nationally on the topics surrounding primary care psychiatry. He recently received the Alan Stoudemire Award for “Innovation and Excellence in Psychosomatic Medicine Education” from the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine. He also has received VCU School of Medicine’s Irby-James Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award, which is the highest clinical education award at the VCU School of Medicine.
